Program Background |
The mutual exchange program between Tsugaru City and Bath, Maine,
began in 1990 when 39 people visited Bath for the very first time. The
following year, 32 people from Bath came to visit the former Village
of Shariki (now Tsugaru City).
The program has continued for more than a decade, and as of 2006, 470
people from Tsugaru City and the former Village of Shariki have
visited Bath while 240 members of the Bath community have come to
Japan. Each year on the program,
students spend two weeks touring, experiencing, and living the
culture of their sister city while staying at the home of a host
family. |
